Unfortunately, many people get cravings for snacks shortly before they are due to go to bed. When this happens, they tend to grab the first unhealthy snack they can get their hands on. Lucky for you, there are many healthy bedtime snacks you can have. Here are the top snacks you can have when bedtime nears.

1. Greek Yogurt

When it comes to yogurts, one stands out of the crowd and that is Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt doesn’t contain a lot of fat and it is high in protein and is low in sugar, which is why people eat it after working out, but many people eat it right before bedtime. In fact, when people eat a little bit of protein at bedtime, then overnight protein synthesis is enhanced and this helps repairs muscle. Whether you’re into exercising and fitness or you’re just looking to crush a snack craving, reaching for Greek yogurt before bed is a good idea.

2. Peanut Butter On Whole Grain Bread

Another good option is peanut butter on whole grain bread, but choose to use natural peanut butter because it is healthier for you than regular peanut butter. One of the reasons peanut butter is a good bedtime snack is because it helps you sleep due to containing tryptophan, which is an amino acid. Let’s not forget to mention that peanut butter is high in protein and whole grain bread is a good source of fiber. Anytime of the day is good to eat this for a snack, but definitely have it before bed.

3. Turkey

When people think of bedtime snacks, they often don’t think of turkey but it is actually one of the best things to have as a snack. It contains an amino acid that is known for making you feel tired, which means you could easily have a good night’s rest after eating it. Also, turkey is rather high in protein, and best of all you can eat turkey on its own or on crackers or whole grain bread. Another reason turkey is good to eat is it keeps you feel full and you probably won’t wake up feeling too hungry.

4. Bananas

Bananas have a sweet taste to them but they are healthy and they are low in calories. In fact, they have around 100 calories, which means you won’t be eating something too heavy before going to bed. Not only that, but it contains tryptophan and it is a good source of potassium.

Bananas are versatile too. You can eat them on their own, chop them up and add them to a bowl of oatmeal or you can freeze a few slices and then mash them up and eat them with a spoon. These are only a few ways to eat bananas.

The next time you want a snack before bed, then reach for a Greek yogurt or peanut butter on whole grain bread. Turkey and bananas are other good options. With that said, the next time you need a bedtime snack, reach for one of those foods.
